2023–2027 Ford F-150 fuel tank strap recall: VIN rules
Ford’s fuel tank strap recall covers certain 2023–2027 F-150s. Build dates alone do not establish coverage: the campaign also uses an unsold-or-recently-in-service eligibility rule.
What the recall covers
Ford is recalling certain 2023–2027 F-150 trucks because an improperly secured fuel tank can leak or detach while driving. Ford’s Part 573 safety recall report lists 223,472 potentially affected vehicles and says fuel loss can cause an engine stall, while a leak increases fire risk and a detached tank creates a road hazard.
Ford says front fuel tank strap T-slots may not have been properly inserted into the frame rail during assembly. The remedy includes inspecting both front and rear straps and replacing any that are not properly secured.
Which trucks are included
Ford’s Part 573 report identifies vehicles built from January 4, 2023, through August 27, 2026. Within that production window, Ford includes trucks that were either unsold or had less than three months in service as of August 27, 2026. Ford says its observations indicate that the condition appears very early in a vehicle’s life.
Ford’s dealer notice gives the following production windows for Dearborn Truck and Kansas City, respectively:
- For model year 2023, Ford lists January 4–December 11, 2023, at Dearborn and January 4–December 22, 2023, at Kansas City.
- For model year 2024, Ford lists August 24, 2023–November 13, 2024, at Dearborn and July 8, 2023–December 8, 2024, at Kansas City.
- For model year 2025, Ford lists October 16, 2024–December 20, 2025, at Dearborn and November 18, 2024–November 25, 2025, at Kansas City.
- For model year 2026, Ford lists December 2, 2025–August 27, 2026, at Dearborn and July 26, 2025–August 27, 2026, at Kansas City.
- For model year 2027, Ford lists May 1–August 6, 2026, at Dearborn and May 21–August 19, 2026, at Kansas City.
Ford’s dealer notice labels its U.S. population as 220,864, while the Part 573 report lists 223,472. Ford’s filings do not explain that difference. Ford also says the trucks were not built in VIN order, so dates alone do not establish eligibility.
What the record shows
MotorAlmanac’s complaint counts show 20 Fuel & Propulsion complaints among 730 complaints for model years 2023–2026, including the 2023 Ford F-150 records. None of the excerpts reviewed describes loose fuel tank straps or a detached tank. The component matches include other propulsion problems and refueling concerns.
Ford’s Part 573 report identifies 16 warranty claims worldwide related to the condition and says Ford knows of no reports of accidents or injuries related to it. Ford’s chronology describes a review of warranty data and assembly-verification practices. Together, these records show a recall supported by Ford’s own investigation even though the owner-complaint excerpts reviewed here do not describe the specific strap fault.
Ford’s quarterly report, submitted October 21, 2026, lists 99,989 of 223,472 vehicles as remedied for the third quarter: a calculated 44.7%. Its definition includes vehicles inspected without needing a repair and vehicles returned to inventory.
That completion share does not establish how many straps were replaced. Ford’s dealer instructions allow a passing inspection to close the recall, and the dealer notice expects fewer than 1% of affected vehicles to require strap replacement.
What to do
Whether a truck is included depends on its VIN; check it at nhtsa.gov/recalls. NHTSA’s recall acknowledgment identifies Ford’s campaign as 26S69 and lists Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
Ford’s owner letter says the remedy is available and the inspection and necessary replacement are free. Ford estimates less than half a day for the repair, although scheduling may require a longer stay.
Ford says it has not issued instructions to stop driving under this recall. Its Part 573 report lists no warning and marks no Park Outside advisory. The dealer notice requires affected new inventory to be inspected and corrected before demonstration or delivery.
Ford’s reimbursement plan covers qualifying repairs performed before September 28, 2026, with later emergency repairs at non-Ford facilities submitted through a dealer. The owner letter asks owners to provide original paid receipts and says a previous repair does not remove the need to complete the recall.
What this page cannot tell you
Ford’s Part 573 report estimates that 1% of the campaign population contains the defect; that does not predict an individual truck’s failure probability. Owner complaints are unverified, and the counts are not adjusted for sales. Some complaint excerpts are incomplete, so they cannot establish everything reported in the full filings. Ford’s filings do not explain the population difference or provide the number of vehicles that actually needed replacement straps.
