Toyota widens Tundra V35A engine recall to 2024 trucks
The expansion covers 126,691 vehicles. Dealers now inspect the main bearing with software first; the engine is replaced only if the check cannot clear it.
What the recall covers
Toyota's recall 25V-767, filed in November 2025, widens the earlier Tundra engine recall, 24V-381, to 126,691 vehicles. It covers 2022–2024 Tundras with the 3.4-liter twin-turbo V35A engine built from November 2021 to February 2024, along with Lexus LX models and the 2024 Lexus GX. The defect is the same one: machining debris left in some engines during production can stick to the crankshaft's main bearings, and a bearing can then fail. Knocking, rough running, a no-start or a stall are the symptoms, and a stall at speed is a loss of power.
A further recall, 26V-320, filed in May 2026, adds 43,566 2024 Tundras built from February 7 to August 5, 2024. Toyota says engines built after that window have an improved number-one main bearing.
What changed in the fix
Under the first recall, every covered truck got a new engine. Under the expansion it does not. According to Toyota's statements reported by Pickup Truck Talk, dealers use inspection software, recorded drive data and diagnostics to judge the bearing. If the check clears it, the truck keeps its engine; if it cannot, the engine is replaced free. Toyota's filings enter "1%" for the share of engines with the defect and explain that the figure means "unknown".
What owners reported
As the federal complaint file stood on September 21, 2026, 574 of the 1,170 owner complaints for the 2022–2024 Tundra name the engine. That is 49%, above the 40% at which this site calls one system a model year's failure pattern. The previous Tundra, with Toyota's 5.7-liter V8, has 19 engine complaints for 2018–2021 combined. The median stated mileage in engine-failure complaints is about 34,000 miles, low for a worn bearing and consistent with a manufacturing contaminant. These are unverified owner reports, and we hold no sales figures by model year.
What to do if you own one
Run your VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup: a truck can appear in more than one of these campaigns. If the dealer's inspection clears your engine, ask for the result in writing with the date and mileage. If the engine knocks or stalls, stop driving when it is safe and call a dealer. The years are on the 2022, 2023 and 2024 Tundra pages, and our Tundra V35A owners' guide covers all three recalls in depth.
What this page cannot tell you
Whether a particular engine carries debris, or will fail. Only the inspection can say that about one truck, and Toyota itself cannot estimate it for the fleet.
