2024–2027 Land Cruiser fuel leak recall: what owners should know
A fuel tube joint near the tank can separate and leak gasoline until the engine shuts off. Toyota still has not found the cause; dealers will add a clamp, free of charge.
What the recall covers
Toyota is recalling 105,794 Land Cruiser hybrids from the 2024 through 2027 model years because a fuel tube connection near the fuel tank can come apart and leak gasoline. Toyota filed its Part 573 safety recall report with NHTSA on October 14, 2026, as campaign 26V673.
The vehicles were built from November 29, 2023 to October 1, 2026. Toyota's count by model year: 25,041 from 2024, 41,955 from 2025, 21,274 from 2026 and 17,524 from 2027.
The joint links a resin fuel tube on the tank to the main metal fuel line. If the retaining clip on the connector is lifted, the two can separate. Fuel may then keep leaking until the gasoline engine in the hybrid system shuts off, and a leak near an ignition source raises the risk of fire.
What Toyota found, and what it has not
Toyota's defect information report says field reports began in mid-July 2024, with dealers finding the clip lifted or missing. Factory footage showed the clips correctly seated at build, recovered parts were within specification, and pull, vibration, pressure and standing-water tests did not separate a properly secured connector.
In 2026, of about 400 vehicles inspected, one had a lifted clip. In a static test, a deliberately disconnected joint leaked multiple gallons before the engine stopped. Toyota decided on the recall on October 8, 2026, citing that leak volume and the number of field cases. It says the cause is still not confirmed.
What the record shows
Owner complaints are unverified accounts. The Land Cruiser model page counts 79 complaints for 2024–2026: 39, 33 and 7. Brakes lead them. Five describe a fuel line coming apart or a gasoline leak. One owner saw "gasoline pouring from the bottom of my car". Two tied the leak to driving through standing water.
Read together, the documents show the public record trailing Toyota's own. By October 6, 2026, Toyota counted 23 field technical reports and 64 warranty claims from the U.S. that may relate, 87 in all. NHTSA's database held five owner complaints, and the first was filed on January 23, 2026, about 18 months after Toyota's field reports began. Someone checking the complaint record in 2025 would have found nothing about this fault.
What to do
Whether a car is included depends on its VIN; check it at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Toyota says owner letters will go out by December 13, 2026. Dealers will inspect the joint and add a supplemental clamp, or replace the resin tube and add the clamp, free of charge.
Toyota's dealer notice expects the remedy in December 2026 and puts the repair at 30 minutes to 2.5 hours. Until then, it lists signs to watch for: fuel smell, a leak under the vehicle, rough running and a Check Engine light. Owners who already paid for this repair can seek reimbursement through the owner letter.
Toyota has told dealers to stop selling about 800 new vehicles in stock. Used Land Cruisers may still be sold before the fix if the buyer is told about the recall. Every current campaign is on the recalls page.
What this page cannot tell you
These records do not show how likely any one Land Cruiser is to leak; Toyota itself says it cannot estimate the share of vehicles with the defect. Complaint counts are not divided by sales, and the five complaints are unverified. None of the five complaints reports a fire. The 2027 model year has no complaints yet.
